TRAFFIC SAFETY IN THE ALMADEN VALLEY COMMUNITY

Dear Almaden Valley residents,

Three times this past month (December 2008 to January 2009), severe damage to vehicles and injuries to residents have marred our neighborhoods.
Please, if you have seen any of the following crashes, call the San Jose police 408-277-8900 or 311 or the county sheriff's office 408-686-3658 and report what you know.

1. McAbee and Almaden Expressway.
On January 1, 2009 at 1:30 a.m., Shelli and Jessica were driving south on Almaden Expressway, approaching McAbee, when they were hit from behind by a late model silver Range Rover Utility 4D.  The driver of the Range Rover did not stop, and therefore will be arrested on-site for felony hit and run if identified by San Jose Police.  Our car has sustained considerable damage and will probably be totaled.  We need your help in locating this vehicle and the owner.  The Range Rover should have considerable damage to the front bumper on the driver's side at a minimum.  If you know of someone in the Almaden Valley that owns such a vehicle, please contact me with the information.  At this time we do not know the long term physical affects on Shelli and Jessica due to the accident.  Please forward this e-mail to anyone you may know that can be of assistance in locating the owner of this vehicle.
Your help is very much appreciated.  Thank you.  Steve Shortt

2. On or about December 18, in the town of New Almaden on Almaden Road, John Slenter's truck was struck from behind and totalled while parked in front of his home.  No one stopped to give him a report.

3. About the same date, in the town of New Almaden on Almaden Road just south of Brown's, someone smashed into a privacy fence where horses are boarded.  This damaged about 30 feet of fence.  The driver of the four-wheel vehicle drove into the property and exited through the driveway, leaving the gate open.  They left the scene without filing a report.  According to the owner, the license plate was left at the scene.

If we can find these scofflaws, together we can make Almaden Valley even safer than it is.

Comments and reports of other traffic crimes are welcome and will be posted as they are received.
