Public Schools

The four Elementary Schools, two Middle Schools and one High School located in the Almaden Valley are part of District 5 of the San Jose Unified School District (SJUSD).  In addition, many Almaden Valley residents attend Pioneer High School, still in District 5, but outside the Almaden Valley.

There is also the Guadalupe Elementary School, part of the Union School District, which is located in the Almaden Valley.

The SJUSD is located in a corridor from the San Jose Airport at the northern end to the southern point of Almaden Valley.  In the SJUSD, there are a total of 45 schools with enrollment of over 32,000 students.

SJUSD District Overview

The San Jose Unified School District 5 contains schools in both Almaden Valley and Blossom Valley.  The District 5 School Board Trustee is Leslie Reynolds.  Take a look at her Web site which contains a great deal of information about the District 5 schools.

The Almaden Valley SJUSD Schools have a total enrollment of about 6,800 students, not counting those who attend Pioneer High and the Union School District's Guadalupe Elementary School.

To get detailed annual report information on any of the SJUSD schools in the Almaden Valley, use the school location maps (links below) and click on the data item under the school's listing that you wish to investigate.

San Jose Unified School District Home Page

The SJUSD home page contains a wealth of material and should answer most questions about our public schools.

The SJUSD Area 5 (Almaden Valley) School Board Trustee, Leslie Reynolds, has an excellent Web site which discusses Almaden Valley school information.

Private Schools

In addition to the public schools, there are two private pre-kindergarten-through-junior-high schools in Almaden Valley.

Founded in 1982, the Almaden Country School provides "a gifted education to every child" and offers classes from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.  Its curriculum covers strong academics plus a large number of electives in junior high school, many of which are started in the elementary grades.

The Holy Spirit School also offers pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade, with a strong academic program and many extra-curricular activities, as well as religious teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.  The school was founded in 2000 to serve Holy Spirit and St. Anthony parishes.

Now for a subjective opinion:  I am proud to live in an area so dedicated to its schools.  The quality is evident by the objectives and results shown in the school reports and by the completeness of the Web site reporting.

Appreciation is expressed to Gary Rummelhoff for his assistance, and also to Maureen Monroe, Public Information Officer and Web master.
